How many of you have ever been to San Antonio before? Honestly, I'm an East Coast girl and have only been west of the Mississippi a few times in my life. I would be hard-pressed to tell you anything more about the city other than a very brief reference from high school history class about "Remember the Alamo." But apparently I am missing out!
Have you heard of SAVE – San Antonio Vacation Experience? I hadn't until recently, and if you're thinking about how to get away to somewhere new on a budget with the fam, you really should check it out! It's super easy to navigate the site, and I would really encourage you to take 5 seconds to get on their SAVE Updates email list to get Limited Time Offers. SAVE has partnered with big-name hotels in the San Antonio area like the Hyatt, Hilton, Marriott, and Westin to give us exclusive rates on hotels during our stay. They've also brokered deals with SeaWorld, Six Flags Fiesta Texas, Schlitterbahn, Splashtown, Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch, the San Antonio Botanical Garden and more to give us discounts and special offers to help us frugal women and moms vacation on a budget. I can see us in line now: "Wait, I have a coupon for that." 🙂
While in San Antonio, here's a sample of savings for a family of four:
1) I would suggest before going to the Alamo, head on over to the Alamo IMAX Theatre Rivercenter and take in the history of the Alamo on the biggest 3D screen in Texas, just to set the stage for your next stop, the Alamo itself. Kids get in FREE with SAVE (with purchase of an adult ticket). Children cost $9 each normally, so with two kiddos, you're saving $18!
2) From there you got to head to the Alamo, right? That's San Antonio's most famous landmark and historical icon, where Davey Crockett and Jim Bowie and 200 other men stood against the 6000 Mexican army of Santa Anna for 13 brave days. Teach your children about the history there, and SAVE will get you $2 off a child admission and $5 off each adult – there's $14 in savings.
3) After a fun-filled day at the Alamo, hop on the Alamo Trolley and into the heart of Old San Antonio, and you'll be treated to some of the city's famous landmarks and attractions. Save $2 off each ticket with SAVE, so there's another $8 in your pocket.
4) Stay right in the middle of the action at the Crockett Hotel, just 18 steps from the Alamo. You'll be able to save on your stay by using the code SAVE12 when you book your hotel online.
5) If you're looking to do something indoors on a budget, children also get in free to the McNay Art Museum, built in the 1920's and boasting work from names you know like van Gogh and Picasso. Adults get $1 off with the SAVE discount.
6) Of course there's Sea World and Six Flags, or you could spend the day at Splashtown, a 20 acre family waterpark boasting over 40 slides for the kiddos. SAVE will give you $7 per child/adult ticket, which means a family of 4 just saved another $14 with SAVE!
This is just a small sample of the savings available with. Make sure you follow them at @SAVEinSA on Twitter to keep up on those last second deals, and if you do head to San Antonio for vaca this year, send me pics and tell me how it was! 🙂
